TROPICAL WAVELENGTHS FOR AN INCLUSIVE WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL / 2019
globalFEST believes that music can be a driving force in a society that values cultural diversity as a source of unity rather than division. Its programs catalyze artistic networks that break down cultural and social boundaries to support and share the world’s music through performance, touring, and media.
2019’s edition was set to take place at the iconic The Copacabana, in the heart of Times Square, NYC. For 2019’s identity refresh, I used the famous Copacabana’s sidewalk pattern as a starting point to create a unique, strong, ownable visual element that became the heart of the identity.
Removed from its original pattern, this visual element got a life of its own. It resembles sound waves and party streamers, while evoking sentiments of freedom, inclusion, fluidity, unlimitedness, diversity, dynamism, all directly related to globalFEST’s original mission.
Introducing orange as a third color for the first time brought energy to the visual identity, brightening up the the artwork and making the entire system feel fresher. Also, all visual treatment was inspired by Matisse’s paper cut-outs.
