Trilhos / Terra Firme
ILLUSTRATING CASUARINA'S MUSICAL MATURITY / 2011
Casuarina’s 4th album was, at that point, the band’s most mature album in terms of composition and arrangement. Their music achieved a precise balance between richness and simplicity. It was intense where it needed to be, but very respectful of the white breathing spaces. Overall, that harmony is what I tried to express the most throughout the visuals.
Trilhos / Terra Firme is named after two songs that clearly suggest opposite directions. But contradictions, as the band says, can be intrinsically complementary. That dichotomy is abstractly represented in the album cover and back cover.
Every piece of art in the album was hand crafted using different types of paper. All done by different artists from different parts of the world, which contributed to the diversity of styles, all unified by a vivid, but neat, visual language.
